Making a Coffin for the Man You Don't Know

I started making my first real sculpture Monday, and by "My first real sculpture" I mean my first REAL sculpture. It's planned, built from scratch by me, large-scale, conceptual and somewhat interactive. Up till this point, I think i'd be hard-pressed to find much more than an altered "found object" in my portfolio.

So while it's not the first sculpture I've made, it's the first one that I really feel is just as much sculpture as painting. Usually it's imagery on the 3D surface, commentary through a found object...but usually, the imagery is what the focus is. Here, i feel, everything works in harmony and the object is informs the imagery.

So...take a look at my process for the last few days...the first major sculpture from a long-time painter, and make sure to check out the show the piece is being made for, Underspaces, with more info coming soon.
