Flowers in the Wind. Live on Brady

Saturday turned out to be a fantastic summer day with a lot of sun and just a bit of wind, perfect for some outdoor painting. There were a good number of people painting up and down the street, everything from graffiti to illustration to abstract and realistic work, really creating an open and exciting atmosphere. I was placed outside Mari's Flower Shop and decided to do a piece based off of the flowers that were around me.

This was a good piece for me. I wanted to create something aesthetically pleasing, based on the imagery around me, yet still holding onto many of the aspects that have taken over my work lately. I wanted the markings to be repetitive, primal, and gestural. I wanted the piece to be rather abstract, yet still grounded in reality. In all, I think i managed to create a piece that melds a more generally appealing aesthetic with the primitive and coarse markings that i've been integrating into my work.
