The Milwaukee Air Show
...a distant rumbling slowly building like a locomotive gaining steam. The sound, enveloping the air around you, crawling through the cracks in the windows and the turns of the air vents. The house shudders, the lights flicker as the deafening BOOOM shakes the very bones in your body. The TV goes silent. The music, a barely audible whimper. The roar fills the apartment as if it is about to toss your bookshelves to the ground in a heap of destruction and unimaginable devastation. You look to the skies but the grinding, pulsating, and pounding machine has passed leaving only the crumbling roar of the neighborhood as it reels and wretches from the overwhelming sound. And then it's gone...almost nothing. The TV slowly builds up, the newscasters chatter returns as if nothing happened and the birds begin to reappear as they rehearse their simply melodies in the again silent air...but a slight hesitation, a small worry in the back of your mind. All is not well...The air show has arrived.
