This above piece, simply put, is about waning love. "I Gave My Name to a Lonely Man." implies the perspective of a woman marrying, describing her husband as a lonely person. The question then becomes "Is that what he was or what he still is? It's a question which, depending on the answer, completely affects the overall message of the piece. Still being lonely would mean that the love was not true, or did not create the union that would bring this man up from the lulls of a depression. A love wasted, a love not quite effective. A love regretted.
The "Wanderers" is a depiction of the solar system...not to scale(funny joke). It's about isolation. This string of life held together by the fact that there is nothing else. They are the "outsiders" in this mass expanse of nothing. It's a simple idea, a simple understanding, a simple style, and a simple feeling. A tiny bit of warmth that's just enough to push hope forward, and just enough cold to keep it controlled.
