YES...based off the eighties song. I watched American Psycho a few times last week (which includes the song) and came up with some very energetic and "violent" pieces. Not too surprising if you've ever seen the flick. A lot of line work, frantic brush strokes and an overall feeling of agitation seemed to permeate the collection of three or four pieces. In contrast was "Lady In Red." Much like in the movie, it was one of the sole peaceful scenes that came out of the studio. A very simple, very quaint, and somewhat brooding piece. A red boat with sail outstretched drifts listlessly on a black sea, only the slight reflections of the rectangular red sail define the water. The scene struck me for some reason. It lasts about two or three seconds in which Patrick Bateman (Christian Bale) sits with headphones, listing to the Chris de Burgh song, barely swaying back and forth with the title line playing. And that's it. It's a moment of clarity in a ridiculously blood-thirsty and momentous movie. A moment where the insanity subsides and all that is left is this gently beat, staving off what it can for the time-being. There is still a sense of terror, a bit of anxious foreboding, but at that time, it is the calm before the storm.
