Sometimes You Just Need To Start Over.

There are times when you should push forward with an idea, and times when it might be better to move onto another. I still think the initial aesthetic has legs, but I definitely got stuck working too long on one thing without taking a step back and without defining a specific purpose.

It started yesterday while processing the photos of the piece. I just didn't feel much for it. Sure I liked how it looked and the "feeling" of the piece...but other than that, I had a hard time saying anything about it. I didn't have a purpose...I didn't really have a concept...I didn't even build it around a specific aesthetic idea...I just started making marks. And while sometimes that leads to something great, I felt that this piece remained a bit empty and I sought to inject a bit of purpose and personality.

The problem is that I didn't have a great plan...The newer image is just more stuffy...less interesting...less free. Maybe just a few extra hours are needed.,..and maybe it's time to totally start over.

It's just one of those moments where you look at the whole piece and are just not interested...that's not good...and when that's the case with my work, it's time to give it another, yet different, shot.

There's nothing wrong with what's happened here...it's just another step up the long, sometimes annoying and frustrating stairway of art. Sometimes things just don't quite work out.
