I Was Jeff Koons' Studio Serf
Check out this interesting article about working in the studio of Jeff Koons and the unappreciated hand of the apprentice.

Let's get something straight quick, I'm not posting this story as a "woe is us, evil big-time artists" complaint, I just think it's an interesting story and a strange sign of the times of the art world. If you sign up to work at someone else's studio, you're doing their work no matter how much you have to do with it. If you want credit for the work you're doing, make your own stuff with your own ideas.
I have a hard time seeing why people get this in the regular world but not in art. If I make a good cover, it doesn't become the "Daniel Fleming Newspaper", it's still The Shepherd Express. If a construction worker makes all the walls in the house, it doesn't become his site, it's still the construction companies'. If you design a website that's awesome, it still is a project from your design company presented by the creative director, not specifically you.
I guess the point is that, yes, the situation in this story sucks. It would for any artist. But then, if you don't think you can do other's work without getting your name on the front, don't sign up to be an assistant.
