Moving Like This. The "What."

The headless subject has been creeping into my work more and more recently...and in this piece it's meant to display a lack of direction...a lack of conviction...and how that trickles down to our most basic progress.

Yes it's somewhat politically motivated...No it is not specifically in reaction to the scandals that have hit the White House recently, though they do push forward the concept.

In this piece...the bull is headless...it's back legs poised to walk, a container of hay sitting at it's feet. But without a head, the bull stays put...it's front legs like pillars in the ground. The container of hay is meant to represent some easy goal...some basic necessity...but without a head, it will go unused. Despite it sitting mere inches from the bull, he has no means to get it. It will sit like a beacon declaring your failure, yet you can't even acknowledge it's there...that it was a goal at all...that failure occurred.

The basic idea is that you can't simply have a goal and some drive...you need a plan, you need to work, you need to accept the possibility of failure, you need to hold yourself accountable instead of stepping out of the way at the first sign things are going badly. I know much of the most recent criticism has been aimed at the President and his apparent inability to govern, but I'm talking about much more than the figurative head of the country...I'm talking about people who blindly go along with things, those that climb out of their hole only when criticism is easy, those that only let their voice ring out when their side is the popular one...

The piece can definitely apply to what's happening at higher government levels in either party...but if that's all you're applying it to, maybe you're a bit more headless than you realize.
