30 Americans. The Milwaukee Art Museum.

I'm pretty excited for this show...especially if the Basquiat featured in the online gallery is actually making its way to the museum!

A few questions though... If it is about being an african american artist in the last 30 years...why is the title about as bland, general and race-less as possible? They are, according to the rundown, very much commenting on race and how it has affected these artists...so why avoid it in the title? Why create a show featuring artists of a certain race commenting on race or lack-there-of in their work and make the show sound virtually theme-less?

I understand that the title "30 Americans" does apply to these artists and they do not need the qualifier of "african-americans"...but I just don't quite understand why you would bother to have such an engaging angle...such a hot-button topic as race drive the show...and not use it in the title...it just seems like they are being PC with their marketing, which is understandable, but sacrificing information on the focus of the exhibit because of that.
