Evan Gruzis
Hey guys,
found this former local artist who seems to be doing pretty darn well out in Brooklyn nowadays. He has a very quasi-80s/90s feel to the work...a very graphic design, techy aesthetic and some really great concepts.
It's not exactly my favorite style when it comes to art, but it's definitely cool. I prefer a much more emotional and primal approach, capturing the energy of the moment with brushstroke and natural occurrence, while this work is much more planned, prepped and "figured out." Much more devoted to the concept and the accomplishment of displaying that concept then the investigation through the process, which I usually concentrate on. However, some of the pieces really do snatch your attention. There are some great "billboard" pieces that are very deep and moody. Dark landscapes with areas barred off, the trees cut prematurely and the clouds obscured by unnatural objects...really cool stuff. Anyways, good to see a midwestern artist getting out there and succeeding.
Unfortunately I can't figure out if there's a gallery on his website and can only see one image there, so click the link below to see some more of his work and read an article about him...I think a lot of you will like his stuff...
