Industry. 35 Photos from a Grinding and Manufacturing Plant.
I don't claim to be a photographer, but every once in a while the job requires it. Lucky for me, the locations are usually a part of a world that I never see and give me access to some great imagery. Take a look at 35 photos from an area grinding and manufacturing plant...I can definitely see a painting coming from one or more of these photos...
Eisenhower Memorial Gets Approved.
Despite major criticism from architects, artists, politicians, and Eisenhower's family themselves, the US Commission of Fine Arts approved Frank Gehry's design for the Eisenhower Memorial in a 3-1 vote earlier this month...

(note that what is shown in the photo is a very small portion of the proposed memorial, unless I missed the announcement that they removed the 80 ft columns, the giant steel tapestries and the other groupings of statues...)
A. The thing's been in the works since 1999 and has cost $62M without anything being built.
B. It lacks cohesion, simplicity or an icon to know it by...
C. No one I can find really likes it. Even the people that defend it seem to do so because of who designed it and simply point to the fact that people once opposed the Vietnam Memorial as proof we should "get over it".
I don't think it will turn out very well...and it's only going to get more expensive.

Thomas Scheibitz: An Artist Worth the Effort
Take a look at the Guardian's review of a new show on Thomas Scheibitz...an artist you may not have heard of, but is definitely worth seeing...and, what's more, worth the effort of understanding (or at least attempting to).

What's Next for Post-Deitch LAMOCA
While some applauded the unique exhibitions and viewpoint brought by troubled LAMOCA director Jeffrey Deitch, many found the shows a bit too "pop" oriented and point to the museum's lowest budget in 15 years as a sign that the man simply wasn't ready for the job and didn't have enough of a background in fundraising. With his recent resignation, hopes for the museum are high, but many within the organization seem to know that the road ahead may be a rocky one...

An Interview with Peter Doig.
Take a look at an interview with Peter Doig, who has always ventured 'elsewhere' in his work, but finds a very warm welcome in his return to the homeland...

Concern Grows Over Syrian Artist's Detention.
The world, or at least the art world, was up in arms when Ai WeiWei was detained by Chinese authorities and held for months with no connection to the outside world...now, a leading Syrian artist finds himself in a similar position, albeit with quite a bit less press. Take a look as concern grows for the artist...
