The Mural and Company...

Now that I've finally got a real mural up in the Milwaukee area, my long-time desire to make murals has come back at full-speed and I'm really hoping to keep the practice going. Not only are murals a great way to activate otherwise less-than-exciting spaces, but they add great personality and energy in any setting...

Though I don't know if it's technically a mural, the above wall vinyl is another avenue of wall art home-owners should take a look at. It's not an original piece of art (it's a upscaled digital file of a small ink drawing so you lose a bit of the uniqueness) but that also makes applying the art easier, quicker and cleaner (and a bit less tragic to remove or paint over)...and also gives the client a bit more of a concrete idea of what they'll be getting (though it's a bit less fun for the artist)...

And of course, there's the outside mural. This piece, temporarily in Madison, took me a full day of work and at 15x15', stands as the largest piece of art I've ever created. Though it was temporary and, unfortunately, really didn't lead to more murals, it remains one of the most fun projects I've ever done and one of the most successful. It's hard to believe it took 2 years to get back into the mural game following this piece..

And the last addition isn't really a mural at all, but just another way to get art out into the lives of the public. It's an outdoor piece that hung temporarily at the Colectivo (then Alterra) in Bay View...and though it was made to be presented as one piece, it can be cut, adjusted, resized, split up and customized to fit anywhere.

And what artist's oeuvre would be complete without the proposals yet to find funding...

So if you're looking for something new for your home or office, don't hesitate to contact your favorite local artist (or me) to discuss ideas and possibilities...and keep your eyes open for more Daniel Fleming projects around town...
