Italy is pissed that an American Gun company has used the David in a campaign as it violates a law saying that any depiction of the statue must be 'considered appropriate and respectful of the object’s ‘cultural dignity’".

While the ad is tasteless and I, in no way, think gun companies should be comparing their products to art, it kinda makes me laugh that Italy finds this so reprehensible. I mean…the last time I saw an image of the David, his groin-area was printed on an apron for a sophomoric illusion. I don't really see how that was 'considered appropriate and respectful of the object’s ‘cultural dignity’"...And I don't really mean to defend the gun ad…but when has the David been used in popular culture in a way that actually respects it?
Maybe it took a gun ad for Italy to realize it, but they haven't exactly been protecting the legacy of the masterpiece by producing dick-oriented aprons and polka-dot miniatures…
