After investigation, as the way it should be, the DA in the Trayvon Martin case announced that there would be charges brought against George Zimmerman, the shooter in what's become a racial tinderbox of a case. Widely reported in the media, Zimmerman found himself public enemy #1 despite his claims of self-defense, receiving threats, having a bounty placed on his head, and even seeing an innocent elderly couples address spread over Twitter by director Spike Lee...

They haven't released the nature of the charges yet...and I'm sure if "murder" isn't involved then there will be more public outcry...but this whole thing has really gotten ridiculous no matter what side you've been on. Something went wrong for sure and I think Zimmerman deserves punishment...but it's been very disappointing to see how many people have totally condemned Zimmerman after hearing the popularized and public version of events and seeing no evidence themselves. I think, even if it was self-defense, that he deserves punishment for the initial instigation of the contact, but really, we don't know anything...It's a tragic case for sure...but it's also a sign that public opinion far outweighs legal process in minds of the general person...and that's a tragedy in its own right.
I hope he gets what he deserves, whatever that is, but we shouldn't condemn someone simply because the new feeds us the story.
