Why We Die: Homicide falls out of top 15.

For the first time in nearly 50 years, homicide is no longer on the top 15 list of reasons people die in the Unites States. Part of the reason falls on the fact that the population is getting older, thus raising death rates for diseases like Parkinson's and Alzheimer's, but a big part of it is a 4.3 percent drop in assault related deaths, putting us at a level below the norm of 1963...

Part of that drop can be associated with better law enforcement and more people in jail overall...but it's still a good sign...
