The Stranger. Details

Here are some detail shots of my newest piece "The Stranger." It's the first piece I've done in a few weeks that has a person as the subject, albeit an abstracted and anonymous person, but it still carries an emotional appeal that sometimes gets lost when you have an abstract object. We, as people, identify easier with other people and I think that sometimes can add an extra dimension of empathy with the work that is hard to reach when you use inanimate objects. The viewer simply has an easier time creating a connection with the work, an easier time imagining what it could be about. Even with the figures' back to us, the face unknown, the character completely untouched we immediately create a narrative for the subject...It's an interesting effect of the piece that I hadn't expected...
