My newest piece based off the above song. Props to the Roots.
I did this piece last night and was pleasantly surprised. I had a very different vision for this piece and am glad that I strayed. The original idea seemed forced...almost like I just wanted to make a new version of something I already did, something I already liked. And while sometimes that works out and the pieces work together...here I found myself simply unsatisfied with the idea of making an unnecessary companion. It would have been cheap...maybe even cheapened the piece that I liked to start with. Anyways, it ended up very differently and uniquely interesting, something far better than a simply "rerelease."
I guess sometimes I just want to revisit the feeling of creating something that i really connect with, am really impacted by...and many times, even as someone who paints a TON, it's hard to buy into new ideas when standing in front of a blank canvas. Sometimes you do end up looking to things you already did and ask "Can I top that? Can I get that feeling back?"
