Los 33.

Los 33: After 69 Days of Darkness is a piece about the Chilean Mining disaster, those trapped below, the outpour of emotion from the families above, and the human ingenuity and perseverance that turned a disaster into one of the greatest rescues in human history. I don't cry in movies...but I watched a Documentary on the story last night and definitely got a bit choked up as the miners were finally pulled to safety.

The piece isn't nearly done, but I'm really liking where it's headed and definitely am in love with the subject. I don't know if I've ever really done a piece that "commemorated" a real event, at least not as obviously as this...and I wouldn't say that I want to do it more (it really depends if a story REALLY catches my interest) but it was an interesting process. I had to think much more about the purpose of the marks I made. I had to plan a bit more as I did need to tell somewhat of a story. I need to tear half the piece off because it looked like crap and didn't create any emotion at all. What's ended from that is a great start to what I hope will be an extremely detailed and engaging piece that will really push people to understand what happened.
